Best Market Research Platform in India: Compared by the Job You Need Done

The best market research platform in India depends on your job: self-serve survey, retail data, CX software or agency. Eight compared, plus a buyer checklist.

In shortThere is no single best market research platform in India, because the label covers four kinds of product. For quick consumer surveys of smartphone users across Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities, a self-serve platform such as Hercules Works fits: you describe the study, it builds the survey, fields it to its app panel and returns analysed results, and the Free plan includes 30 responses. For retail sales and share data you need NielsenIQ. For a tracker compared across many countries you need Kantar or Ipsos. For feedback wired into your operations you need Qualtrics or Medallia.

A Category, Not a Ranking

Disclosure: this guide is published by Hercules Works, which appears in the list. We show the criteria, say where other platforms are the better pick, and link each claim about another company to that company's own page.

"Market research platform" is used for four kinds of product in India: a self-serve survey tool with a panel, survey software without a panel, retail measurement data, and customer-experience software. They are sold to the same buyer with the same noun. That is why two teams can each say they bought the best platform and mean different things.

So start with the decision, not the vendor. If you need to know what consumers think about a concept, a pack or a price, you need to ask them, and the question is who can reach them and how their answers are checked. If you need to know what sold and where, you need retail measurement. If you need to compare one tracker across many countries, you need an agency with global norms. The tables below sort platforms by that job, then give you the checks to run before you sign.

Best Market Research Platforms in India, Compared

The order reflects our scoring for one job: quick consumer research inside India, where languages, reach beyond the metros and clear pricing matter most. Change the job and the order changes.

What each platform says about itself. These are the companies' own descriptions and figures. We have not audited them.

  • Kantar says it has worked in India for over 50 years, across panel and media data, syndicated studies, large quantitative studies and qualitative research (Kantar India).
  • NielsenIQ says its India unit includes the world's largest traditional trade measurement panel, which tracks sales through kirana and general stores, and employs over 10,000 associates in India (NIQ, December 2024).
  • Ipsos says it works in 90 markets with 6M+ authenticated, proprietary panellists (Ipsos India).
  • Qualtrics prices its market research product by interactions, which it defines to include survey responses and minutes of video feedback, on request (Qualtrics pricing).
  • Medallia describes itself as an experience management platform and says it is trusted by 9 of the Fortune 10 (Medallia).
  • SurveyMonkey publishes plan tiers and sells its Audience panel responses separately (SurveyMonkey pricing).
  • Zoho Survey publishes a free plan through Enterprise, with monthly response caps on the lower tiers, plus quota control and skip logic on paid plans (Zoho Survey pricing).
  • Our own platform surveys an app-based panel of identity-verified members. Its prices and limits are in the last two sections.

Four Kinds of Product Sold as a Market Research Platform

Self-serve platform with a panelRespondents, collection, some analysisTeams that need consumers they cannot reach themselvesHow the panel is recruited and verified
Survey software without a panelCollection and analysis onlyTeams surveying their own customers or staffWhether you can reach the consumers you need

Customer-experience softwareFeedback from your own channels, dashboardsCompanies tracking touchpoints and serviceLinks to your CRM, app and support systems

A full-service agency is a fifth option. It designs the study, runs fieldwork and writes the report, and you buy its people and judgement. Our guide to hiring a research agency covers how to brief one and what to ask about fieldwork.

The label does not tell you which of these you are buying. Ask the vendor to describe its panel, its quality checks and its analysis in that order, and note which part it skips.

If the data already exists in your sales or CRM systems, you need an analyst, not a research platform. Research platforms collect new data from people.

On "AI market research platforms". The label says little on its own. Ask which step the AI does: drafting questions, coding open-ended answers, writing the summary, or generating respondents. Synthetic answers come from a model, not people, so treat them as ideas to test and ask for them to be labelled.

Seven Checks Before You Buy a Platform

Work down this list in order. Weak sampling cannot be repaired by better analysis later.

  1. Who answers. How people join the panel, how identity is checked, and how often a member takes surveys.
  2. Coverage of India. Which languages and which city tiers the panel reaches in practice, and how households without smartphones are covered, if at all.
  3. Quality control. Which checks remove speeders, straight-liners and inconsistent answers, what share was removed in the last three studies, and whether removed responses are replaced.
  4. Analysis you can audit. Every chart should show its base size, every significance test should be named, and every theme should link back to the answers behind it.
  5. Data protection. Where data is stored and who at the vendor can see it. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 sets the duties on collection and storage (PRS). Check with your counsel which duties bind you. This is not legal advice.
  6. Pricing model. Per response, per seat, per project or an annual licence. Ask for the total including set-up, translation and reporting.
  7. Reuse. Whether past studies can be searched and reused, and who inside your company can see them.

Platform or Agency: Which Fits Your Study

An agency suits a study with a complex design, a high-stakes decision or a sample you cannot reach online. You are buying judgement as well as fieldwork, so the brief and the researcher matter more than the software.

A platform suits a study you will run often, where you already know what to ask. You keep the questionnaire, the data and the analysis in one place, and you pay per response instead of per project.

The split is not fixed. A team that runs eight concept tests a year on a platform may still hire an agency for one launch study that needs face-to-face interviews. For the list of firms rather than software, see our comparison of market research companies in India.

When Hercules Works Is Not the Right Choice

You need retail sales and market-share data. Our platform measures what consumers say and choose in surveys. It does not audit shelves or track sales. For category sales, share and distribution, use NielsenIQ, and add survey research only for the why behind those numbers.

You run one tracker identically across many countries. If a global team needs the same questionnaire, sample design and norms in 10 or more markets, Kantar, Ipsos or Qualtrics give comparability that an India-focused platform cannot. We fit, at most, as an India add-on.

You need feedback wired into operations. For programmes connected to CRMs, contact centres and case management, Medallia and Qualtrics are built for that workflow.

Your audience is not on smartphones. Our panel is app-based, so it reaches smartphone users only. Offline and low-connectivity households are under-represented and need face-to-face fieldwork from a full-service agency (panel methodology).

What a Study Costs on Hercules

If your job is a consumer survey in India, this is what the pilot above costs with us at list price. Prices are from our pricing page.

StepPlanResponsesPrice per responseCost
Test the questionnaireFree30₹0₹0
Small pilotPlus100₹150₹15,000
Four-city readPro400₹120₹48,000
Larger readPro1,000₹120₹1,20,000

Pro is sold in bundles of 400 to 1,000 responses and costs 20% less per response than Plus. Enterprise plans come with a dedicated research team and are priced on request.

Respondents come from the SuperJ app, which has 2 crore Indian respondents across Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities. That is the network's reach; the survey-eligible panel is a subset, and how many you can reach depends on your targeting. Members complete Aadhaar-based KYC once, then take part through a zero-knowledge proof, so you get verified answers without personal data. Surveys run in as many Indian languages as the study needs, and speeders, straight-liners and inconsistent answers are removed before analysis (panel methodology).

Run the pilot template with us and one other platform. If we lose on your criteria, you will know before you sign anything larger.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best market research platform in India?

It depends on the job. For quick consumer surveys of smartphone users, a self-serve platform with its own panel is the shortest route from question to data. For retail sales and share, NielsenIQ. For a tracker compared across countries, Kantar, Ipsos or Qualtrics. For feedback tied to service operations, Medallia or Qualtrics. Compare two candidates on the same pilot before you commit.

What is the best consumer understanding platform?

The phrase is used for three different products: a survey platform that asks consumers questions, a social listening tool that reads public posts, and an insights library that stores past studies. Decide which of the three you need before you compare vendors. Our consumer survey platform guide separates them.

Is a platform cheaper than an agency?

Usually, for a defined survey. A platform publishes a price per response, so a 400-response study has a visible cost before you speak to anyone. An agency quotes per project, and the quote includes design, fieldwork and reporting. Ask an agency for a total including set-up and translation, then compare that number with the platform price for the same sample.

Can a platform replace NielsenIQ or Kantar?

No. They answer different questions. NielsenIQ measures what sold, where and at what share, using retail data. Kantar and Ipsos run large custom and multi-country programmes. A survey platform measures what consumers say and choose, on a sample you define. Many teams use both: the sales data shows what happened, and a survey shows why.

Which platform covers Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities?

App-based and online panels reach smartphone users in smaller cities, which is most of the connected population but not all of it. Ask every vendor how many completes will come from outside the metros and from which states. Households without smartphones still need face-to-face fieldwork, which means a full-service agency or a specialist field team.

How do I compare two platforms before I commit?

Give both the same eight to ten question survey and the same audience definition, for example women aged 25 to 40 in NCCS A and B across four cities. Compare price per completed response, days to data, the share removed for quality, and thirty open-ended answers read by you. Our company comparison guide has the scorecard.

What is the difference between survey software and a market research platform?

Survey software gives you a builder, a link and reports, and you supply the respondents. A research platform adds the respondents, the quality checks and the analysis. If you already have a customer list and only need a form, software is enough. If you need consumers you cannot reach yourself, you need a platform with a panel.

Do these platforms support Indian languages?

Some do. Zoho Survey says it can translate a survey into 90+ languages (Zoho Survey). Ours runs surveys in as many Indian languages as the study needs, and the analysis reads open answers in the language they were written in. Ask any vendor who translates, and who back-checks the translation before fieldwork.
