Methodology

SuperJ panel methodology: how respondents are verified

Hercules Works, Jupiter Meta Labs · Updated

Hercules Works fields surveys to the SuperJ consumer panel. Members are identity-checked once through Aadhaar-based KYC and then take part in studies through a zero-knowledge proof, so clients receive verified answers without personal data. The SuperJ network has a consumer footprint of 25M+ people across Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities in India.

Key facts

  • Footprint: 25M+ people reached by the SuperJ network. The verified, survey-eligible panel is a subset; availability for a study depends on its targeting.
  • Verification: Aadhaar-based KYC once per member, then a zero-knowledge proof per study.
  • Coverage: Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities; 8+ Indian languages.
  • Privacy: consent-first onboarding, data architecture designed to align with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, client data isolated per account, anonymised outputs.
  • Limitation: app-based, so smartphone users only; offline households need face-to-face fieldwork.

From joining to analysed answer

  1. Identity check, once. A person joining the SuperJ app completes Aadhaar-based KYC a single time. This establishes that the account belongs to a real, unique individual and prevents one person from holding several accounts.
  2. Zero-knowledge proof for every study. When a verified member takes part in a Hercules study, the platform receives a zero-knowledge proof that the respondent is verified, not their identity documents. Clients see verified answers, never personal data.
  3. Targeting. Studies are targeted by geography (pan-India, metro, Tier 1, Tier 2 and 3, region or city), NCCS (A/B/C), age and other profile attributes. Surveys run in 8+ Indian languages.
  4. Response quality checks. Responses are screened automatically for speeders, straight-lining and inconsistent answers before analysis. Flagged responses are removed from results.
  5. Analysis. Poseidon, the Hercules analytics engine, produces cross-tabs, significance tests and coded open-ended answers from the cleaned responses.

Frequently asked questions

How are SuperJ respondents verified?

Each member completes Aadhaar-based KYC once when joining the SuperJ app. For each Hercules study, the platform then receives a zero-knowledge proof that the respondent is verified, so clients get verified answers without personal data.

What does the 25M+ figure mean?

It is the consumer footprint of the SuperJ network: the number of people it has reached. The verified, survey-eligible panel is a subset of this footprint, and the number of respondents available for a given study depends on its targeting.

Does Hercules share respondents’ personal data with clients?

No. Clients receive anonymised, aggregated results and individual answers without identity data. Study data is isolated per client account.

Who is not well represented in the panel?

SuperJ is an app-based panel, so it reaches people who use smartphones. Offline or very low-connectivity households are under-represented and need face-to-face fieldwork.

How is low-quality data removed?

Automated checks flag speeders, straight-lining and inconsistent answers, and flagged responses are removed before analysis.
