Pulse Survey for Employees: Questions, Frequency and What to Do With the Answers

How to run an employee pulse survey: how it differs from an annual survey, 8 starter questions, a frequency rule, anonymity limits and acting on results.

In shortA pulse survey is a short, frequent employee survey of a few questions on a set rhythm, used to spot changes between annual engagement surveys. Ask the same core questions each time, keep it to a few minutes, protect anonymity by not reporting small groups, and act visibly on the results. A pulse survey goes to your own staff through your own list. A consumer panel does not hold your employees.

A Pulse Is Short, Regular and Acted On

An annual engagement survey tells you what happened last year. A pulse survey tells you what is changing now. It is only useful if people see something happen after they answer.

This guide gives eight starter questions, a rule for choosing frequency, anonymity limits and a way to act. The questions are illustrative, and the frequency is a rule to set yourself, not a benchmark. For the wider employee survey, see the employee survey guide.

Keep the same questions each round so you can see change. Add one rotating question on the current issue.

Choosing a Frequency

Pick a rhythm you can keep, and a gap long enough to act between rounds. Monthly or quarterly are common choices. If you cannot respond to results within a cycle, run it less often. People stop answering when nothing changes.

Anonymity and Reporting

Promise only what you can deliver. Do not report groups so small that a person can be identified, set a minimum group size before you start and tell staff what it is. Do not try to trace comments. Read the comments yourself and share themes, not names. See the DPDP Bill summary from PRS for how personal data is treated.

Acting on the Result

  • Share the headline and one action within a set time.
  • Assign each action an owner.
  • Report back at the next pulse: what was said, what was done.
  • If an item cannot change, say why.

Running This Study on Hercules

A pulse survey of your own employees goes through your own channels, so a consumer panel is not the tool. Our panel suits a different job in HR research: surveying working adults in India on workplace expectations, benchmarking attitudes, or testing an employer-brand message before you use it.

StepPlanResponsesPrice per responseCost
Test the questionnaireFree30₹0₹0
Small pilotPlus100₹150₹15,000
Main studyPro400₹120₹48,000

Pro is sold in bundles of 400 to 1,000 responses and costs 20% less per response than Plus. Enterprise plans come with a dedicated research team and are priced on request.

The SuperJ network has a 25M+ consumer footprint. The survey-eligible panel is a subset, and availability depends on your targeting. Members complete Aadhaar-based KYC once, and each study receives a zero-knowledge proof of verification. Surveys run in as many Indian languages as the study needs. Quality checks flag speeders, straight-lining and inconsistent answers. Read /panel-methodology and pricing.

The limit: the app reaches smartphone users only, and the panel does not hold your employees.
